Job Description: You'll design, build, and evolve Gusto's core data platform infrastructure — the systems that power analytics, reporting, and data products across the business and for 300,000+ small business customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and build scalable data platform services and infrastructure supporting business and customer analytics
  • Build and maintain data pipelines, ingestion systems, and transformation workflows
  • Collaborate with Data Science, Analytics, and product engineering teams on data infrastructure needs
  • Drive technical decisions and architecture choices for data platform services
  • Maintain reliability, performance, and observability across all data platform components
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering culture within the platform organization

Requirements:

  • 7+ years software engineering experience with strong data infrastructure background
  • Experience building and operating large-scale data pipelines and analytics infrastructure
  • Proficiency in Python, Scala, or Go; strong SQL fundamentals
  • Experience with modern data stack components (Spark, Kafka, dbt, Airflow, or similar)
  • Cloud infrastructure experience (AWS or GCP); experience with data warehouse technologies (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift)
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional work
