Job Description: You'll work on Upstart's GenAI Platform team, building the infrastructure and tooling that enables AI-powered products across Upstart's lending and risk platform. This is infrastructure-heavy AI engineering work requiring both ML depth and production systems expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and build GenAI platform services and infrastructure enabling AI-powered features across Upstart's product suite
  • Build LLM integration infrastructure, RAG systems, prompt management tooling, and model evaluation frameworks
  • Collaborate with ML engineers, data scientists, and product teams to turn AI capabilities into production features
  • Ensure GenAI platform services are reliable, observable, cost-efficient, and scalable
  • Evaluate new AI/ML techniques and frameworks for applicability to Upstart's platform
  • Contribute to internal developer experience for teams building on the GenAI platform

Requirements:

  • 6+ years software engineering experience with strong Python or Go backend expertise
  • Production experience integrating LLMs, RAG systems, or AI infrastructure
  • Strong systems engineering background — distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, APIs
  • Experience at a fintech, financial services, or high-growth SaaS company preferred
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills for cross-functional work
